NJCC over the weekend was quite a blast. Great experience for those who haven't competed for, and I guess it was somewhat of a reality check for those who had the opportunity to compete last year.
Well, I can't say that jianrong and I felt confident of ourselves even on the day of competition, but whatever, we came to a consensus to "just whack" The day started off perfectly, I went through everything that I visualized. Out of bed, to the toilet, tying my hair and inserting those pins... hahaha! Felt just like any other water training session. Met toot, weighed our weight (found out that we were tugging an extra 2kg of weight for the last few trainings before NJCC) and went down for a row. I think it was just us down in the water at that time, so everything was so peaceful. The water was so calm and for the first time in weeks, we actually felt power in every stroke, that glide that we so missed just came back to us naturally. I'll never forget that row.
Women's K2 1000m- 12noon
Waited quite a while for our event to come, but I managed to focus all my energy by sleeping and praying. Somehow I felt that God was just carrying me along. Before each race (heats, semis and finals), I said the same prayer for the both of us "Dear Lord, grant us the strength, power and stability to finish this race." and after the heats, when this little leaf decided to stick onto the front of blackie to give us some resistance.... "Dear Lord, please remove all leaves from our lane" :) and He did just that.
After each race, Muddy came to me and said "I haven't seen the two of you so happy after a row in a really long time" Quoting muddy "it has helped some of the team find renewed love for the sport. It's been a long time since i've seen some of them so happy and enjoying their row, and i'm really glad for them that they've managed to reignite that spark again." Yes, not only did NJCC renew that trust that jianrong and I have for each other, it really made me realize how much I enjoyed rowing with my K2 partner even after all the sh*t that we had to go through.
Made a lot of friends too! The both of us made up our minds to extend our well-wishes to every competitor that we met during our row towards the 1km mark (trust me, it's pretty long) and whilst waiting at the yellow buoys (: hahahaha!
Managed to PB during the semis, but didn't manage to maintain that during the finals. BUT we still came in third, so that's a consolation. Loads to work on from now till the next competition: either friendlies/ Women's Open. 1)Stamina- to row 3 events in a day (esp if we're going to row 1km events from now on) 2) Bursting power- we took, what, almost 500m to overtake the GESS boat during heats, cos of our burst? yes, MUST WORK ON THAT
Shall review the videos and work on our weaknesses and focus on our strengths :D

I think my biceps don't look prominent enough in this picture
(I'M JUST KIDDING)

Heats- 5:10.57
Semi Finals- 4:55.33
A finals- 4:56.11
k4 500m? what can I say. Thank you girls for that 500m of exhilaration. Thank you all for trusting my ruddering (HAHA) and thank you for yelling at me (this sounds weird) whenever I slow down the frequency haha! Got a silver for K4 500m. There's still room for improvement! But I won't be forgetting that adrenaline rush for a long time
